Slave Auction
Slave Auctions were how slave owners bought slaves. They would go into town and there would be a slave they would bid on. The highest bidder would buy the slave. Slave's families were broken or kept together. Highest bids were on strong slaves. Before the auctions the slaves were taken and stored in pens near the auction. The auctioneer decided the starting price for a slave depending on their age and health.
There were two main types of slave Auction:
1. Those that sold to the highest bidder
2. Grab and go Auctions
